INGREDIENTS THAT AGGRAVATE ACNE

Let's face it (pun intended) we place A LOT of emphasis on our skin in todays culture and society. Your skin is how your body helps you detox by letting bacteria, toxins, excess hormones and other items out, mainly, while you sleep. Our skin h

as a really big job, from protecting us from external and environmental toxins, to assisting the release of an internal build up, especially if your gut health is not on point. So why though, if our skin has such an important role, would you want to put ingredients on your face that hinder these roles and cause more irritation? Chances are you don't even realize the items in your skin care even those marketed towards acne, are actually part of the problem. WHAT!!! I know, it makes no sense, read below to see what we mean and how to help change your routine!

Some of the major headlines you will see for acne prone skin are chemicals like Benzoyl peroxide, Adapalene, Salicylic acid and Azelaic acid these are extremely potent ingredients that can actually damage your skin long term.

"Ok, but I only use those things when I get a pimple which is like once every month" Even if you have a small about of pimples or hormonal pimples once a month, toxins in your skincare products aggravate & cause further inflammation making your situation last longer or even cause more breakouts.

One of the main culprits is SLS – Sodium Lauryl Sulphate. This is basically a cleaning detergent. Today it is actually known as a skin irritant and damages the surface of the skin. However, it’s extremely cheap to make which makes it favorable for most companies to use. Almost all toxic chemicals start with a base of alcohol and petroleum to undergo a chemical change.

When these chemicals come in to contact with an opening in your skin, like a pimple, scratch etc. they move through your cells through permeation passing through your cells causing a disruption in the natural function of that cell.

Things like parabens and phthalates they may not directly aggravate your acne but they stimulate oestrogen in the body, which in turns can contribute to breakouts.

If you have acne avoid the following in your skincare :

* Alcohols

* Petroleum

* Dyes and artificial colourings

* Parabens

* Phthalates

* SLS

* Isopropyl Myristate/Isopropyl Palmitate

* Fragrance Scary and overwhelming, we know. If you are ready to switch to a more natural skincare line that will help support your skins natural microbiome and heal areas of irritation and breakouts, visit our "FACE" page to scroll through a list of alternative skincare products.
